Did You Guess Right? – Part 2
By Megan Forziati
At last the top came into view. The peak of the mountain. She threw the safety bar above her head…just because she was the only person insane enough to come out at 7:00 am on the coldest/windiest day of the season, didn’t mean she couldn’t take precautions. As her seat rounded the dismount she made eye contact with the man behind the glass. A gruff twenty something year old raised a hairy eyebrow as Cara slid off. She moved forward and edged her board to the left toward her favorite route. She inhaled to scream in excitement, but her lungs scurried away into hiding due to the external freezing air, causing Cara to take a few gasping coughs before she could recompose herself. She wiped her nose, leaving the inevitable wet spot on her glove.
Cara sat down and cupped the snow in her mittens allowing each beautiful powdery crystal to fly away with a gust of wind. She buckled in her right foot and with a cartwheel-like motion, flipped herself over so her back was to the burly man’s cabin; the only person she had seen since she left her room that morning. Without a second thought, she hopped with both feet in the board to get some momentum, pointed her left shoulder forward, and didn’t look back. Snowboarding was the one escape Cara had from reality, and what better time to escape into a world all her own than when a winter vortex sucked her into its almighty glory? She flew down the mountain, throwing her hands up in the air in pure glee as the storm rushed past, leaving her breathless. She carved down the mountain and at every turn a little piece of Cara became alive.
Once every two weeks a two part short story will arise from the mind of Megan. In other words, once a month a brand new story will come out, however, in order to find out the ending of the story, you will need to tune in two weeks from the first part to get the follow up. Enjoy!
