Game Recap (Women’s Soccer): Kent State vs Pitt
By: Stuart Blair
It was a tale of two halves for tonight’s game.
The first half of this game was mired with poor crosses, sloppy play, and stagnate offenses. For the Panthers this came down to poor communication between the midfield and both attacking and defensive thirds. Niki Hopkins and Siobhan McDonough both left the game early due to some apparent injuries. McDonough also received a yellow due to a tactical foul with 17:00 left in the half. Perhaps the highlight of the half was a marvelous save by Taylor Price to keep it tied 0-0.
Both teams turned it around in the second half. They both turned up the pace as both teams were able to get a goal. Jenna Hellstrom scored on a penalty for Kent State, which she beat the keeper on. And for Pitt, Niki Hopkins headed in a beautiful set piece. Once again Price was able to keep the Panthers in it with some more marvelous saves. One of which was a fantastic dive to tip a ball out. Two Golden Flashes received yellows, one to the goal scorer Hellstrom and the other to Katie Kovacs. The Half finished 1-1.
Kent State scored with one minute of the second overtime to seal a close 2-1 win.
