Pitt Lockdown Lifted
The University of Pittsburgh has removed the lockdown it imposed after a fatal shooting incident at Western Psych earlier this afternoon. People leaving campus are being urged to stay away from Western Psych.
Two people were killed and seven people wounded in a shooting in the lobby of the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic earlier this afternoon.
One of those killed is reported to be a gunman. A Pitt Police officer is among the wounded. He reportedly has non-life threatening injuries after being shot in the leg. All of the wounded are being treated at UPMC Presbytarian.
Earlier reports indicated the presence of a second shooter but those appear to be unfounded.
Western Psych is being evacuated to Pitt’s Scaife Hall, located just across DeSoto Street. A hotline has been set up by Allegheny County Emergency Services for those affected by the shooting. For information on patients or other concerns, call 412-623-7724.
