Pitt 47, Temple 17: Postgame Recap and Audio
By: Dakota Arturo
Pitt: Ray Graham- 19 rushes, 109 yds, 2 TDs; 4 receptions, 71 yards, 1 TD
Temple: Montel Harris- 18 rushes, 72 yards, 1 TD
Towards the end of the 1st half, Ray Graham capitalized on an 80-yard drive with what appeared to be a 7-yard TD run. As Graham stretched the ball over the goal line, it popped out and was recovered by Temple CB Vaughn Carraway. The run was originally ruled a fumble, but after further review, was overturned and downed at the 1-yard line. Graham proceeded to pound the next run into the end zone for a Pittsburgh TD and a 24-7 lead. Had the call not been overturned, Temple would have had 3:34 of clock to work with before the half to put together a scoring drive. The overturned call was the difference between a 24-7 game and a potential 17-14 game going into the half.
The Pittsburgh Panthers picked up a much-needed 47-17 win over Big East opponent Temple. The win brings Pittsburgh up to the .500 mark (4-4), and gives them their first Big East win of the season.
True freshmen RB Rushel Shell, and TE J.P. Holtz scored the first two Panther touchdowns, and Pittsburgh never looked back. The Pittsburgh Panthers accounted for 528 yards of total offense, their third 500-yard performance of the season. RB Rushel Shell ran for 79 yards and a TD on 12 attempts, but senior RB Ray Graham stole the show early on. Graham accumulated 180 yards of total offense, and added 3 TDs in what was arguably Graham’s best performance of the season. Graham’s 4-yard TD reception came on the last play of the half, and gave the Panthers a 31-7 lead going into the break. Tino Sunseri threw for 321 yards and 3 TDs, one of which was a 58-yard TD pass to junior WR Devin Street to put an
exclamation point on the scoring. Street finished the game with 140 yards on 6 receptions, a new career high. The Panther defense also held a prolific Temple Owls running game to just 129 yards on the ground.
The 4-4 Panthers head to Indiana next week where they take on the No. 5 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish. WPTS will be in Notre Dame at 3:00 for pregame, with kickoff scheduled for 3:30.
