Controversial R&B artist R. Kelly has announced on social media that he is working on a Christmas album. On Saturday, the 49-year-old singer tweeted “Christmas album coming later this year.” The tweet also included what may be the album artwork: a photograph of R. Kelly sitting in an armchair next to a Christmas tree and a fireplace with a cigar and a glass of liquor. The album is titled “12 Nights of Christmas,” a play on the traditional Christmas carol 12 days of Christmas.
While we don’t have many details about the album, R Kelly has been talking about releasing a Christmas album for several years. In a 2013 interview with Rap-Up.com, he said he was working on 12 Nights of Christmas but he wasn’t ready to release it. R Kelly said, “In order to get that and capture that moment, you have to take a couple of Christmases and then you come with it.” 2016 might finally be the year for R Kelly. In that same interview, he described the album by saying, “It’s gonna be a lot of lovemaking, and I come with that bearing gifts.”
R Kelly has tried his hand at many different musical styles, so it only makes sense for a Christmas album to be next. R. Kelly wants to prove that even at 49 years old, he still has what it takes to make love albums. While 12 Nights of Christmas does not yet have a release date, it has potential to be one of the most unique Christmas albums in years.
