The Chow Down Episode 12
By Matt Patton, The Chow Down Host
On this edition of The Chow Down, Matt and Dylan tackle some miscellaneous news stories, mostly involving superhero movies. Later in the show, they team up for a joint review on the Oscar-nominated Dallas Buyers Club.
The hosts were thrilled to bring up the breaking news surrounding Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel sequel, currently titled Batman vs. Superman. Top actors Jesse Eisenberg and Jeremy Irons have joined the cast as Lex Luthor and Alfred Pennyworth, respectively. The casting decision shows that Warner Bros. and DC are aiming to create what might be a hyper-intelligent, socially withdrawn arch nemesis for Superman.
In other news, Marvel Studios has hired writers to pen another Thor movie. They also decided to re-hire Joe and Anthony Russo for another Captain America sequel. With a few months still to go before Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits screens, this shows that Marvel is satisfied with their new product.
Dylan and Matt talk about Dallas Buyers Club and its merits, including the incredibly transformative performances of Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto. The film is based on the true story of Ron Woodroof, a man afflicted with AIDS who begins to smuggle treatment drugs into the country when he comes to the conclusion that his current treatment is actually killing him faster. Dylan felt that McConaughey’s performance was enough to maybe snag him the Best Actor award this year. Matt was intrigued by the direction of this film, finding the different combination of Steadicam shots and handheld shots to be highly effective. Both hosts felt that — especially with this film — McConaughey’s career is on the upswing, and it’s a pleasure to watch him on the screen.
