The Left Foot October 17
By Vincent Smith, The Left Foot Host
This week on the Left Foot, co-hosts Vincent Smith and Zach Herbster begin by discussing the end of the government shutdown and the ramifications it had for both parties.
With differences in opinion, both Vince and Zach try to see if there were any winners of the standoff, if there are positives after such a harrowing experience and if the future holds more financial difficulties for the federal government.
From there, The Left Foot turns to the state of public schools in Pittsburgh and their consistent lack of funding. Seemingly in an un-winnable situation, now even the students are speaking out about the quality of education and the effects that the economic woes have had on their learning. Students who have had to deal with school closings face bloated classroom sizes and a lack of personal attention.
Vince and Zach dive into the issues and see if there are solutions to help the kids most affected. Can taxes be increased? How can public schools compete with private and charter schools? And most pressing of all, is the future of public schools in Pittsburgh a last resort for parents to send their children? These issues and more are covered on this episode of The Left Foot.
