VIA Fest Favorites from WPTS Radio
WPTS radio is proud to announce our partnership with Via Festival 2014. Via Festival will take place October 1st-5th throughout Pittsburgh. Tickets are available here!
VIA Fest is a city-wide event bombarding Pittsburgh’s familiar venues with world-renowned DJ’s, nationally recognized visual artists, and bands spanning genres from slow beat club to gypsy punk.
Progressive bands and visual artists share the lineup of VIA Festival creating a truly dynamic art and media experience. One artist, Vince Mckelvie, intends to bring art to the streets of Pittsburgh through “augmented reality graffiti.” A unique app will allow attendees to interact with these multi-dimensional displays.
VIA Festival is also well-known for their unique Audio Visual Showcases which combine the lineup’s darlings with daring visual artists to create a kaleidoscope for the senses. Laser lights will meet black metal while artistic films frame indie crooning. These combinations of artists from varied backgrounds and mediums create one of a kind experiences unique to VIA festival.
Other events include screenings at The Row House Cinema in Lawrenceville: a unique venue offering the best brews and popcorn too. Artist workshops and lectures will also occur throughout the city including a discussion with Diode Milliampere on utilizing outdated computers in musical composition.
From here on consider WPTS the curator of your five day exploration of VIA Festival:
Altar Bar will showcase a few WPTS favorites on Wednesday October 1st Real Estate and Regal Degal. Real Estate is near and dear to the hearts of WPTS staff for a number of reasons: indie and rock. Regal Degal is a little less simply stated. They’ve got sway swirled with psychedelic lilt plus muffled vocals that’ll make soft-grunge girlies swoon. However, a tough choice will be made Wednesday night when choosing whether to attend the Altar Bar show or see Mark Mcguire at The Shop! Witnessing Mcguire’s experimentation in ambiance is an experience fans are not soon to forget.
Ellie Herring: Hot Mass Friday October 3rd
On Friday, October 3rd we suggest catching Ellie Herring and Bambounou at Hot Mass for some pop synth and dance beats.
Blue Hawaii is our must see on Saturday October 4th. This event is an Audio Visual showcase found only on VIA stages! With visual artists still to be announced the anticipation can only be furthered by Blue Hawaii’s electronic pop alluring sound.
Last but not least! We recommend checking out VIA games. Videogames developed by a local Carnegie Mellon professor will be traveling throughout festival events in backpacks fully equipped with screens and controllers.
Via-Festival begins Wednesday October 1st through Saturday October 5th. Five day passes for all events are 100$ and tickets for individual events may be purchased for varied prices. All Tickets may be purchased at the following link: http://via2014.com/tickets/ All venues allow re-entry which grants ample opportunity to explore surrounding neighborhoods in pursuit of VIA’s pop-up art displays and a little elbow room.
