On April 3, 2013, WPTS News and Pitt Political Review hosted a mayoral debate on Pitt’s campus at the O’Hara Student Center. The debate, moderated by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette‘s Politics Editor Jim O’Toole and Amy Friedenberger of The Pitt News, was open to both students and community members.
After bus monitor A.J. Richardson, citing personal and legal reasons, excused himself from the debate in his opening remarks, City Councilman Bill Peduto, State Rep. Jake Wheatley and former Pennsylvania Auditor General Jack Wagner fielded questions about campaign finance, city infrastructure, mass transit improvements, the makeup of the Pittsburgh Police Department, UPMC’s current nonprofit status, urban housing problems, and much more.
A special thanks goes out to Pitt Graduate and Professional Student Government for providing food for attendees, and also to WPTS News Director and Pitt Political Review Editor-in-Chief Thomas Visco for his commitment and tireless efforts in organizing this event.
