WPTS Radio & Drusky Ent. present Deltron 3030
WPTS Radio, Drusky Entertainment and 720 Music present Deltron 3030 at the Altar Bar on July 15th with special guests Kid Koala, and Fortified PhonetX. Doors open at 7 and the show begins at 8 pm.
Deltron 3030 is composed of a trinity of alt-rap all-stars: Master lyricist Del The Funky Homosapien, virtuoso turntablist DJ Kid Koala and superproducer Dan “The Automator” Nakamura. Individually, they stand at the top of their respective musical disciplines; together, on the eponymous Deltron 3030, they warped space, bent time, transcended genre and blew minds, creating an album that still stands today as one of the most important records in the annals of underground hiphop. Critics called it a masterpiece — both timely and avant garde: “Exactly what you might expect from such a teaming: a wildly imaginative, unabashedly geeky concept album,” said AllMusic.com. “It’s not only one of the best albums in either of their catalogs, but one of the best to come out of the new underground, period.” Pitchfork called Nakamura the “poet laureate of creepy, oppressive beats,” describing the album as an “exciting” reimagining of “the future from the bottom up” that reveals Del as a “surprisingly acute social critic.” Now, over a decade later, they’re finally releasing the long-awaited followup to their debut — an album titled Deltron 3030: Event II.
Kid Koala is a world-renowned scratch DJ, music producer, and award winning graphic novelist. He has released four solo albums on Ninja Tune the most recent being 12 bit Blues. He has also released two graphic novels: Nufonia Must Fall and Space Cadet. He has also been involved in collaborations such as Gorillaz, Deltron 3030, and The Slew.
Kid Koala has toured with the likes of Radiohead, the Beastie Boys, Money Mark, A Tribe Called Quest, Mike Patton, DJ Shadow, and The Preservation Hall Jazz Band. He has contributed to scores for the films Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Looper and The Great Gatsby. He has composed music for The National Film Board of Canada, the Cartoon Network, Sesame Street, and Adult Swim. He has also been commissioned to create music for runway shows for Belgian fashion designer Dries Van Noten. Kid Koala’s unforgettable live shows range from silly touring turntable carnivals like Short Attention Span Theater (featuring turntable bingo) and Vinyl Vaudeville (including puppets and dancers) to quiet-time events like Music To Draw To and his Space Cadet Headphone Experience.
Fortified PhonetX (FPX) is a Pittsburgh, PA based Hip Hop crew. It’s members are Blacklisted (DJ, Producer), Connect (Emcee/Producer), and Moemaw Naedon (Emcee/Producer). FPX was spawned out of decades of friendship and one common goal; world domination through Hip Hop. Together they have performed locally for national acts like Cannibal Ox, Doomtree, Greenhouse and more. They host many touring Hip Hop artists in their own city and have taken their own brand throughout the Rust Belt, Midwest, and East Coast. FPX’s debut album is titled ‘The Plastic Eaters’ (Noevember 2012) and it can be found on Bandcamp, iTunes, Amazon, and most other digital outlets. Most recently they have teamed with Proseed to establish Surface Level Records, which will begin with a fresh roster of underground Pittsburgh artists. The crew never sleeps so be on the lookout for music from the label, as well as solo and side projects from each FPX member.
