WPTS Radio interviews Buke & Gase
Ever since the release of their album, General Dome, last year, it seems that Buke and Gase are still on a roller-coaster that only goes up. The band recently spoke with WPTS member, to discuss the new projects coming up. Their latest track posted on SoundCloud, Seam Esteem, is intended to be a tease to their upcoming album. The duo said that “[we] felt we wanted to release something early… keep a momentum going.”
But the band also posts something new every Monday, as part of the Monday Mission tunes. The project not only acts as “a little exercise for us to get stuff out there”, but also aids in the overall song-writing process. The Function Falls EP is an example of this song writing process, where they challenged themselves to write songs as quickly as possible.
The band experiments with a variety of unique instruments, such as the Indian and Pakistani instrument, the bulbul tarang, and frequently builds their own equipment, such as guitar pedals. They frequently explore new ways to use rhythm, and their new song, “Seam Esteem”, features more rhythmic elements than just the bass drum. The band also has a unique relationship between vocals and instrumental, with a mixture of expressive vocals and mechanical instrumentals. They frequently use improv, as the more expressive elements of the songs, usually stem from being in the moment. This spontaneous singing, against the backdrop of a distinctive melody, results in the fresh sound that identifies the band.
Buke and Gase will be playing in Pittsburgh for the first time, at the Smiling Moose on Wednesday, October 8th.
